Definitely a raccoon! These little rascals come into my house here in San Francisco if I don't close up the cat door early enough. And I often forget, so they get in a lot! But they're cute, so sometimes I just leave them alone to eat the cat food and then they go. The cats and the raccoons leave each other alone, so I don't worry about that too much.

That sounds incredibly cute!

It is! They’re a little messy; they pick up the cat food with their tiny hands, dip it in the water bowl, and then eat it. So there’s always muddy little footprints and a dirty water bowl, but yes, they have cute personalities.

Apparently, evolutionarily, they are becoming more domesticated. Their snouts are getting more rounded. So maybe in a few hundred years they will be just like cats! (I know a lot of people already have them as pets, so…)

Raccoon! They use my backyard above ground pool to clean grubs at night and leave little footprints around the edge.

Ha! You are correct. How cool that your pool is a raccoon hangout!
