Draw a loggerhead shrike
A free bonus video & printables for everyone, from my online course archives. Enjoy.
This week, walking beside a barbed wire fence on a remote country road, I found a loggerhead shrike’s pantry. The little shrike, dapper in his black mask and white “pocket handkerchief” wing marking, perched near a tidy row of impaled prey ranging from grasshoppers to what appeared to be part of a desiccated frog. The shrike is a skilled hunter with no talons, so he secures his food by hanging it up. Seeing a shrike is always a treat. Finding his larder is truly special.
Seven years ago, after a similar experience, I made a video lesson about drawing a loggerhead shrike. I want to share it with you, along with an illustrated tip sheet and some photo references. (Please forgive the sound of my farmer neighbor’s tractor in the background - it was harvest season.)
