The only canine to change its fur color with the seasons, the arctic fox is a sleek grey-brown in summer. By November, the cold-weather transformation is complete: the fox is snowy white, with an incredibly fluffy tail that makes up 1/3 its total length. Like many arctic animals, the fox is both predator and prey. It’s very helpful to be able to blend in with a snow drift.
